The Department of Journalism and Communication was officially established in 2016 as one element of College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Gondar. It was founded with limited number of staff and department resources. It had only six but hard working staff at the beginning.
Through time, however, it quickly started growing and now it is a full-fledged body of education in the university. Now, the department has a total of 14 staff including the laboratory technician. It also has a very inviting multi-media room where laboratory courses are delivered and students can practice 24/7.
Nowadays, the Department of Journalism and aCommunication has become a fast-growing center of education that students join with their choice. The department has also opened a post-graduate program in Journalism four years ago. It is also starting another post-graduate program, Medical Journalism, in collaboration with School of Public Health very soon.
