The department of population studies was opened in 2010. It has been the first department in the country by offering undergraduate program in population studies. The program focuses on the area of fertility, mortality and morbidity, migration, urbanization and settlement, nutrition, environment and development, civil registration and vital statisticsgender, family planning, maternal and new born health, adolescent and youth reproductive health, STIs, and HIV/AIDS, abortion, harmful traditional practices, gender based violence, research activities on population issues, project planning , analysis and evaluation, etc. In addition to the undergraduate program, the department provides masters program in Population and Reproductive Health both in the regular,summer and extension programs. So far seven batches were graduated in the undergraduate program and three batches in postgraduate
