Geography and Environmental Studies is one of the departments under the College of Social Sciences and the Humanities, which started by its undergraduate program in the year 2003 with 3 lecturers, and 72 students. Since then the department has been playing a significant role in launching the new departments of Development and Environmental Management Studies and Population Studies in 2007 and 2009/10, respectively. Besides, the department has launched MA and MSc programs in four specializations namely Geography and Environmental Studies, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Urban and Regional Development Planning and GIS and Remote sensing. The department has also started two PhD programs of Urban and Regional planning and Natural Resources and Environmental management in 2018. Graduates from the department have got employment opportunities in different sectors and contribute significantly to the overall development endeavors of the country.
