Department of Ethiopian Language(s) & Literature_ Amharic
Department of Ethiopian Language(s) & Literature_ Amharic was established and begun its function in 2003 E.C under University of Gondar. The department has started its function by offering courses to Amharic major students. The department was one of the five new degree-offering departments established in 2003 E.C in the college of Social Sciences & the Humanities. From 2003 up to now the department has been training Ethiopian Language(s) & Literature _Amharic major students in Bachelor of Arts degree in regular and summer programs. In addition to undergraduate programs, the department has been running three graduate programs in Applied Linguistics in Teaching Amharic & Master of Education in Amharic Teaching. Among those three graduate programs one is PhD program in Applied Linguistics in Teaching Amharic. The department launched Applied Linguistics in Teaching Amharic in 2007 E.C. in regular, summer & extension programs. Many Amharic language professionals have benefited from this program and they filled the gap of trained manpower at tertiary and secondary school level and in other professions in the country. Similarly, Master of Education in Amharic was also launched in 2008 E.C in summer program. Many candidates from different regions of the country assigned by the minister of education have joined the program.
