Field Education
Field education is the central component of the social work training at Department of Social Work, University of Gondar which enables students to integrate theory with practice. Field education is concurrent with course work and is required during both the junior and senior years. Faculty as well as fieldwork placement agency will jointly provide supportive supervisory inputs to train students and build their professional identity in an incremental manner from the first to the fourth year. For the BSW program, we have three field education courses each having 4 credit hours and a minimum of 200 field hours each with a total of 600 hours. The field education in the BSW curriculum program is designed to prepare beginning level generalist social work practitioners. In the MSW program, there are two field education courses each having 3 credit hours and a minimum of 450 field hours each with a total of 900 hours. The field education in the MSW curriculum program is designed to prepare advanced social work practitioners with two unit modules at every year of study level.
